Ibhesh. Part of the Way of Six Energies. Living energy.
Ibhesh-Yana. A fighting style learned by the monks of Ut'Bharma. It channels the body's natural energy (Ibhesh) to allow superhuman feats like flying leaps and great strength and resilience.
Imperial Flame. Another term for the physical manifestation of the Flame of Heaven.
Iridescent Pearl, Divine Minister of. Supreme sea deity in the pantheon of the Empire of Splendour.
Isle of Wyrm. See Wyrm, Isle of.
Ivanka, Kizena. Wife of Kizen Denik, co-ruler of Beltavia Keep. Kizena Ivanka is a follower of the Yavennik Heresy.
J
Jade Gibbon. One of the four geomantic animals. Jade Gibbon lives in the north. He supports the sky and is the patron of farmers.
Jade Sword. Outlaw group in the Ashoyin Protectorate dedicated to protecting peasants from local warlords.
Jevri Lancehold. See Lancehold, Jevri.
Jiunsami. Name given to magicians in the Empire of Splendour who have registered with the authorities. See tabusami.
Juiza. One of the Three Mountain Sisters.
K
Khazar. Title of the ruler of Vaarta. Normally passed on to the eldest male heir, but in the past this has not always been possible.
Khazarate of Vaarta. See Vaarta, Khazarate of.
Kind Deeds Day. The last day of the Victory Over Pride (tenth lunar month). In order to better emulate the wisdom of the Celestial Emperor, citizens of the Empire of Splendour perform deeds to help others on this day.
Kiranjika. Land of Four Suns. A distant island where the surface burns because four suns rise in the sky. The people live underground, fighting a war with the non-human Tenoko-O.
Kizen. Title of nobility in the Khazarate of Vaarta, roughly equivalent to Duke. Female = Kizina.
Kronlordan. Small city-state in the Three Sisters Mountains.
Kulaban, Oracle of. Region of Chaos hidden within the Throne of Heaven Mountains. Tales of the Monks of the Oracle are often used to frighten children.
Kunubara. Form of expressive dance originating from Oksa. Each performance of kunubara tells a story.
L
Laburnum Festival. The last day of Victory Over Want (third lunar month), celebrating when Jade Gibbon brought agriculture to humanity, at the behest of the Celestial Emperor. Houses are decorated with laburnum flowers and other yellow decorations, and there are many feasts and wild parties.
Lady East. An Immortal associated with growth and fertility. She is the chief concubine of the Divine Emperor.
Lady Laughing Corpse. Immortal who brings disease. She is the insane mother of Master Cinnabar.
Lake of the Flaming Spear. See Flaming Spear, Lake of.
Lana Fzaib, Shogun. Current ruler of Kronlordan.
Lancehold, Jevri. Noted explorer from the Empire of Splendour. Discoverer of Tas-Nabrenor.
Lights, Festival of. The last day of the Victory Over Darkness (first lunar month). It is celebrated with candlelight processions, representing the birth of the Celestial Emperor as East Sun.
Lightning. One of three Immortal brothers from the Department of Heavenly Waters. See also Flood and Thunder.
Llaza, City of. Port city at the mouth of the Anhui River. Home of the Merchant's League.
Longing Star, Magister of. Second rank of Magister Judiciary.
Lorazor. Wide-brimmed waterproof hat, usually made of waxed leather. Originally from Denra-Lyr but adopted throughout the Empire of Splendour.
Lord of Four Corners. See Four Corners, Lord of.
Lord of Four Suns. See Four Suns, Lord of.
Lotus Book. Manual on sex published in the Empire of Splendour.
"Lotus Girl". Euphemism for prostitute.
Low Imperial. Lingua franca of the Empire of Splendour. A simplified form of High Imperial without such complex grammar and more loan words.
