The city is mainly built on two substantial islands - Easter and Wester Isle - these in turn are connected to the mainland by two huge stone causeways. They are surrounded by many smaller islands and great patches of swamp and sandbars created by the silt deposits of the Anhui. Most of these smaller islands are owned by the rich who live in secluded palazzi, separated from the unwashed masses. On the mainland lying between the two great causeways is the area given over to the livestock markets and campgrounds for visiting trader caravans, many of the workers also live in villages here. The Bridge connects Easter Isle with Wester Isle but small boat traffic is everywhere.

Wester Isle
Thievestown is situated in the largely disused Western Docks. The rest of this island is only slightly more respectable, with low taverns, and boarding houses (a polite term for brothels), gambling hells, dosshouses for itinerate dockers and labourers, ancient warehouses and the notorious area known as the Street of Five Sorrows. The slums and ghettos of Wester Isle are not a place for the unwary.

Easter Isle
Eastern Docks are much more respectable and are the heart of the shipping trade. Here both the Harbour Patrol and the League maintain law and order and most of the merchants have their offices and warehouses hereabouts. Further to the east is the naval base known simply as The Yard. Here are dedicated shipyards, docks, residences and the magnificent Admiralty building. Two massive seawalls extend to protect the Yard, each with a lightower. These towers also house the massive seachain mechanism which can be raised to prevent hostile shipping entering.

In the distant past Llaza was nothing more than a Nekuu fishing village, but as its wealth and importance has increased so its architecture has changed. Originally heavily influenced by Imperial geomancy it corresponds roughly with the set pattern of markets and bazaars on the north of the island, the military to the east, craftworkers to the south and places of learning and the arts (including bathouses) to the west. However since the expulsion of the Empire much organic growth has disrupted this tendency. The land slopes gently up from the docks until you get to the highest point of the island, the Plaza.

The Plaza is a magnificent triangular piazza. The League's Hall takes up one whole side of it, facing the rather smaller City Council Chambers where local government is based, and where the Viceroy has his official residence. The remaining side is taken up by the Temple of Divine Diversity. In the centre of the Plaza is a large stone platform where public executions take place. In each corner of the Plaza is a fountain to provide decoration and drinking/washing water. Borad avenues extend from each corner: Broadway which goes directly to the causeway, Viceroy's Way down to the Bridge and from the last corner two thoroughfares, Trader's Way down to the docks and Admiralty Way.

Other craft guild-halls are situated in nearby streets. The Plaza hosts a daily market of produce and general goods, and the streets surrounding the square are full of shops of every description, hostelries and taverns. The public amphitheatre is close by and most of the official foreign embassies and temples are in this area also. The majority of the population live and work on Easter Isle.

Old Jebban is not a place, but a local personality. He is a half-mad old prophet who scrapes a living begging and telling fortunes to gullible newcomers. He mostly hangs around the Plaza and Viceroy's Way.

The Academy is a famous school of arms based just outside the city limits, run by Colonel Kim "The Stern" Uzu. It is freelance, but with strong ties to the League Defence Force. It has about 150 boarders and 50 day students aged between 10-20 years old. They are taught combat skills of all kinds - military history, tactics, strategy and seigecraft.

The Temple of the River Dragon is actually a small alcove shrine featuring a worn staue of the River Dragon whose body is said to form the islands upon which Llaza is based. The local fishermen place offerings here to ensure a good catch. Since the offerings are usually fish from the last catch, the shrine has a distinctive smell.

Ziframp's Spectacular Salsham'ai Circus is a popular entertainment venue just off Viceroy's Way, surrounded by a gaudily coloured fence. The show is run by Ziframp's great-grandson Virporas, and features mainly salsham'ai acrobats, trapeze artists and tightrope walkers, but there are a whole host of other acts.

Little Thalsa is a neighbourhood on Easter Isle made up mainly of salsham'ai. It was originally a small park full of trees, but ex-pat salsham'ai took up residence and bought the area. It is home to the official salsham'ai embassy and the popular tavern, The Old Braashak.

Muru Shan's House of Forbidden Delights is a cluttered, poky shop hidden way down the back alleys of Llaza, seemingly impossible to find more than once. It is a curio shop, full of precious antiquities and wrthless junk in equal measure.
